Australia's Matt Wilkinson will chase his first World Surf League event win after reaching the Gold Coast final.
Wilkinson reached his second tour final after eliminating defending event champion Filipe Toledo.
The Brazilian, who had dominated the event, came up hurt early in the heat after missing a turn.
Toledo battled on and actually scored a 7.10 ride to take the lead in the heat.
But he was helpless to prevent Wilkinson notching a heat-winning 6.60 to move into the decider with a 14.43 out of 20.
A clearly injured Toledo struggled to the beach after the heat and was carried back to the surfer's tent by security and his father.
"Hopefully his back is not too bad, he looked like he was in a bit of pain at the end," Wilkinson said.
"I'm just going to make sure I am on the best two waves and do as big a turn as I can every section I get."
The Australian will face Kolohe Andino, himself chasing a maiden tour event win, after the American eliminated giant-killing injury replacement wildcard Stu Kennedy in the other semi-final.
