Local favourite Joel Parkinson has eased into the fourth round of the World Surf League event on the Gold Coast.
The 2012 world champion, aiming to bounce back from a horror 2015 campaign, defeated Brazilian Jadson Andre to move into the final 12 at Snapper Rocks on Monday.
Parkinson scored a two-wave total of 14.83 out of 20 to beat Toledo by 1.17 points.
Defending event champion Filipe Toledo has also breezed into the fourth round with a destruction of Australia's Ryan Callinan in the opening heat of the third round.
The Brazilian scored a two-wave total of 16.60 to defeat Callinan by a whopping 11.60 points.
The result was a disappointing end to Callinan's first event as a tour regular after he upset South African Jordy Smith on Sunday.
Earlier, the men's second round wrapped up with Australians Matt Banting and Jack Freestone both eliminated.
Tour rookie Freestone was undone by Brazilian Caio Ibelli while Banting fell to American Kolohe Andino.
